ACTION OF VITAMIN B6 IN STROKE AND HEART DISEASE

Vitamin B6 has a signifi cant role to play, along with folate and vitamin B12, in the reduction of elevated homo cysteine levels associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease — specifically, coronary artery disease and stroke. Vitamin B6 also plays a significant role in the immune function of the elderly. Research shows that In vitro indices of cell-mediated immunity in healthy elderly adults indicate that deficiency of vitamin B6 is associated with impairment of immune function. This impairment appears to be reversible with vitamin B6 repletion.
